Helpful Information & Map
Location: We are located right on the sand across from the restrooms on the Claremont Launchramp. Look for our chairs and tables and black SoCal Flags and black instructor hats and shirts. We set up about 11:15am when we have 11:30am lessons. See map below.
Wind: Do not worry about the forecast- it is not accurate. The Beginning lesson 11:30-2:30pm is always possible. The water lessons 2:00pm-5:00pm require a bit more wind. If we cannot complete your lesson due to light wind, you have choice of prorated refund or reschedule to complete your lesson another day. We will email or text you about an hour before the lesson if we feel wind is in doubt. If wind is in doubt we will contact you via email the morning of the lesson. Please check your email before driving if you want a wind update for water lessons!
Rebook: Book your next lesson time while you are at the beach before you leave as we do fill up. You can always hold a date with 24 hrs. notice to change or cancel.Better to hold a spot than to find we are sold out.
Extend: As long as you are here at the beach why not make the most of your time? Our students always want more! If its windy and you are already here don’t drive away!
Tips: 100% of instructor tips go to the instructor who teaches you. Instructor tips are not included in lesson tuition and greatly appreciated. Tips may be paid at the beach by cash or credit card or even venmo to either the school or directly to the instructor. If you did add your instructor tip at time of booking online, your instructor can see this before the lesson and will be appreciative.
What to bring: Bring warm clothes, hat and sunglasses. No shoes or booties are needed, barefoot is best. For the afternoon water lessons bring a wetsuit and towel. A 4/3 or 3/2 full suit is best; if you don’t have one, we we can provide them. There are restrooms, outside showers, and rinsing hoses. There are no vendors so bring food, snacks, and drinks. Also food such as pizza can be delivered to the beach.
Parking: Street parking is free and there are a Metered lots that take credit cards. The ticket machine has an app so you can add time without needing to come back to the machine to add time. Allow time to park on busy summer weekends. Don’t leave your laptop or purse on the front seat. We have a lockbox and truck storage at the school if you need to store something valuable.
Guests: Entertaining family or guests while you kite is a snap. Walking a distance of 2 blocks there are restaurants, shopping, biking, rollerblading, kayaking, SUPing, bird scooters for rent, and other activities. Most want to watch the kiters and take pictures while they wait. Kids that are waiting are best to cross the street as the bay side is great shallow wading beach, swimming, and some inflatable kids toys to climb.
Pets: Pets are technically not allowed at the kite beach but the dog beach is walking distance up to the next beach and parking lot.
Minors: Parent can sign waiver at the beach or get waiver at link on the bottom of this page. Ages 9 and up are allowed to take lessons but must be a private lesson or private group with another family member.
Trash: To reduce trash Kite Beach rules are no smoking, no alcohol, and no pets. Keep the beach clean, avoid single use plastic, try to take away more trash than you bring. Together we can make a difference.
Safety: Lifeguards are stationed at the kite beach in summer and patrol with trucks and boats year round. They provide EMS services and rescues when needed. They are an asset to our community and our sport- treat them with respect and appreciation!
Cancellations: We request that you to notify us 24 hrs before your appointment time if you wish to reschedule or cancel. If you choose to cancel 24 hr notice then you can choose to receive a refund or we can hold a credit until you reschedule. A 50% refund with be given on cancellations with short notice, and no refund is available on no-shows without any notification prior to the appointment time. Lesson credits are for valid 1 year from purchase date.
